Mental Health Education & Screening Events for October 2019

GRASSY PLAINS, Oct 22: 1215 from 10am-12:30pm – Keefes Landing Rd: Cheslatta FN Women’s group–open to all women on the Southside , includes mental health checkups (screens), games, crafts, snacks & lunch and mental health education take-aways.

BURNS LAKE, Oct 24, 1-3pm: Elizabeth Fry Women’s Group–347 Hwy #16, includes mental health checkups, games, crafts snacks and mental health education take-aways.

Family Support Groups

Monthly meeting that is confidential, encouraging and helpful. Discover potential options — you are not alone!

Vanderhoof Family Support Group: Join us on the 2nd Monday of each month at the Public Health Unit MPR, (Room 3299 Hospital Rd) from 3:30-4:30 pm.

Burns Lake Family Support Group: Join us on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Hospital (#170-741 Centre Street, Burns Lake), from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.

L.isten E.mphathize, A.gree, P.artner (LEAP)

LEAP teaches us a set of evidence-based practices to help individuals affected by mental illness that are experiencing denial or poor insight (anosognosia), become fully engaged and adhere to recommended treatment.

Puppet Plays/Presentations

Call Heather Megchelsen in Public Education School District #91 to book:

Presentation on Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder to help grade10 C.A.P.P. classes.

“What are Friends For?” is a puppet play that describes mental illness as a physical illness of the brain and explains how to help for grades 4 to 6.

“Hey there’s Hope and Help!” is also PUPPET TALK about mental illness appropriate for grades 1 to 3.

Smart RECOVERY Family Support Group

Are you a family member or friend of someone with an addiction? Help yourself and help your loved one. The SMART Recovery Family Support Group is a science-based, secular alternative or supplement to Al-Anon.

One-On-One Support

Sign up for one or more programs or one-to-one support for individuals or family support. Our organization is always open to starting an additional support group or program in any area within the district expressing interest.

Strengthening Families Together For education and support to families who have a loved one with a mental illness. Once a week for 10 consecutive weeks families meet for two hours to learn positive coping strategies. Courses available 2017/18 in Prince George, Quesnel and Lakes District.
