Sign up for one or more programs or one-to-one support for individuals or family support. I am always open to starting an additional support group or program in any area within the district expressing interest.

Family Support Groups

Monthly meeting that is confidential, encouraging and helpful. Discover potential options — you are not alone!

Vanderhoof Family Support Group: Meets 4th Thurs monthly, 3:30 – 4:30 pm outside or on Zoom

SMART Recovery Families & Friends (F&F)/NAMI: Meets 3rd Wed monthly, 6:30 – 7:30 pm, Zoom-only support group (open to all)

Here to Help

Annual Fall Beyond the Blues Events (CMHA BC)

Watch for the launch of virtual events providing helpful information on mental illnesses and mini-mental health checkups for specific groups. These include emerging adults (grades 10 to 12) and women’s groups (including a high-risk group).

Puppet Plays/Presentations

Call Heather Megchelsen in Public Education School District #91 to book:

Presentation on Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder to help grade10 C.A.P.P. classes.

“What are Friends For?” is a puppet play that describes mental illness as a physical illness of the brain and explains how to help for grades 4 to 6.

“Hey there’s Hope and Help!” is also PUPPET TALK about mental illness appropriate for grades 1 to 3.

Family Wellness Programs

Monthly Drop-in Noon-hour Chats* (Building healing connections through kindness and helpful communication skills) open to all on the 2nd Wednesday of the month 12 – 1 pm via Zoom.

SEP    Families supporting recovery from a mental illness including substance use disorder

OCT    Families supporting recovery from a mental illness including substance use disorder

NOV   Supporting recovery through Stages of Change help for both families and their loved ones.

DEC    Families supporting recovery during holidays.

JAN    Families supporting recovery for themselves (Journey of Adaptation).

FEB    Families supporting recovery in collaboration with other families and health providers

*Resources and various program information will be offered at each drop-in session.

Community Partners

Mental Health & Addictions Advisory Committee

Omineca Lakes District teleconference meets 2nd Thurs monthly, 1:30 – 3:00 pm.

The purpose of the meeting is to proactively help families and individuals living with any mental illness and/or addiction work together in advocacy with Northern Health representatives.

The goal is to reduce community stigmas toward mental illnesses and/or addiction and support services that connect the disconnected.
